Florida Colleges

There are many Florida colleges to choose from. So many that we can't even list them all. If you are a new college student or an older adult wanting to learn a new career or brush up on old skills, the Florida's community college may be for you.

Consider the many things a community college has to offer, such as:

1. General education. Brush up on lost skills or learn new ones.
2. Take credit courses that will count towards a university if you decide to further your education. These credit courses also apply to a liberal arts college.
3. Take courses that will benefit you with knowledge that helps in your field of work.
4. Taking community courses will help in career decision making.
5. Community courses are provided for many older citizens in the community.
6. Take courses in electives to gain knowledge in art, music, or drama.
7. These courses are often less expensive than university courses.

Many of these community Florida colleges offer an associate's degree and cerificate programs. Some certificates can be obtained in less than one year. This will depend on what subject area you are pursuing. A few, but not many, offer baccalaureate degrees, Out of state tuitions are much higher; often 3 or 4 times the amount someone pays that lives in the area of the college. Most of these Florida colleges also offer room and board. This can range in price and is sometimes quite expensive. You may want to rent a room off campus. All of the community Florida colleges offer financial aid. You will need to call the college of your choice for specific information.

Most Florida community colleges require that you attend an orientation class. Once that is complete you can set up an appointment with the counseling department. Your counselor will discuss which academic program is best for you. They will go over associate degrees and whether you'd like your degree transferred to a university upon completion. Maybe you will want an associate of science degree to provide further work skills. Many different certificates are offered in many work fields. Some attend community Florida colleges to receive their GED or to complete their high school education. Whatever reason you have decided to attend community college in Florida, you will find that a community college may be your best choice.
