In order to get a Florida drivers license you will need to visit the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. If you a new driver, replacing your drivers license or just moved to Florida and need a Florida drivers license, there are certain things that are required.
When arriving at the Motor Vehicle office, you will need to show your certified birth certificate or a certificate of naturalization. They will ask for a second form of identification. This can be a baptism certificate or a marriage certificate. A voter's registration card that is at least three months old can also be used as a second ID.
If applying for a new license, you will be required to take a few tests. To receive a Florida drivers license you will need to take a hearing test, a vision test, road signs and rules test, and an on the road driving test. Those seeking a learners permit must be at least 15 years of age and will be required to take all of the tests mentioned. A learner's permit is known as a restricted permit and will not be upgraded to a operator's license until you have had your permit for one year. During that year you must not have any traffic violations and must have a parent verify that you have driven at least 50 hours. 10 of those hours must be night time driving.
When you've made the decision to go to the DMV and apply for your Florida drivers license, make sure you call ahead. Setting up an appointment will make for a much shorter waiting time. While you have them on the phone be sure to ask if the identification you are going to supply as a second ID is acceptable. The cost of a Florida drivers license is $20. If you are only renewing your license, the fee is $15. Replacement drivers licenses are free if your license was stolen and can prove it with a police report. Tax fees may also apply with can be as much as $5.25.
